Job Title: Tax Software Specialist
Location: Houston; Orlando; Boston
Department: Tax Technology/IT
Reports To: Tax Technology Manager

Job Overview:
The Tax Software Specialist is responsible for managing, implementing, and supporting tax software solutions for the firm or its clients. This role involves configuring and optimizing tax software to meet business and compliance requirements, troubleshooting issues, and providing training to users. The Tax Software Specialist works closely with tax teams and IT departments to ensure that software systems operate efficiently and accurately, helping to streamline tax processes and ensure compliance with tax regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement, configure, and maintain tax software systems to support the preparation of tax returns and compliance reporting

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tax software, working closely with internal users and software vendors

  • Ensure tax software is up-to-date with the latest tax rules, regulations, and patches

  • Collaborate with tax and IT teams to optimize workflows and improve software functionality

  • Provide training and technical support to tax staff on the use of tax software, including best practices for efficiency and accuracy

  • Customize tax software settings and configurations to meet the specific needs of the firm or clients

  • Assist in the integration of tax software with other financial systems (e.g., ERP systems, accounting software)

  • Maintain documentation related to software configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides

  • Conduct system testing and quality assurance to ensure accurate calculations and data integrity

  • Assist in automating tax processes through software tools, reducing manual input and improving overall efficiency

  • Monitor the performance of tax software and recommend enhancements or new tools to improve productivity

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Information Technology, or a related field

  • 2-4 years of experience working with tax software, tax technology, or a related IT role in a tax environment

  • Proficiency with major tax software platforms (e.g., Thomson Reuters, CCH, Intuit, etc.)

  • Strong understanding of tax compliance, reporting, and filing processes

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, particularly in a software environment

  • Familiarity with ERP systems and financial accounting software integrations

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to train and support non-technical staff

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines

  • Knowledge of SQL, data management, or automation tools (such as Alteryx) is a plus
