Job Title: Tax Researcher
Location: Nationwide
Department: Tax Compliance and Research
Reports To: Tax Manager / Director of Tax Research

Job Overview:
The Tax Researcher is responsible for conducting in-depth research on various federal, state, local, and international tax laws and regulations. The role involves analyzing tax issues, providing guidance to tax teams, and ensuring compliance with constantly changing tax laws. The Tax Researcher helps support tax planning strategies, mitigate risks, and advises on complex tax situations that affect both individual and business clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough research on complex tax issues, regulations, and legislation at the federal, state, local, and international levels

  • Provide accurate and timely responses to tax-related inquiries from internal teams and clients

  • Analyze tax law changes and their impact on current and future tax filings and planning strategies

  • Assist with the preparation of tax memoranda, technical reports, and documentation to communicate findings and recommendations

  • Collaborate with tax professionals and external advisors to resolve complex tax matters

  • Keep up to date with the latest tax law developments, court cases, and IRS rulings that may affect clients or business operations

  • Review and interpret tax code sections and other legal documents to support tax planning and compliance efforts

  • Develop and maintain a tax research database or resource library to provide quick access to critical tax information

  • Assist in preparing reports for audits, tax disputes, or other tax-related matters as needed

  • Support the development of tax planning strategies by providing technical expertise and research insights

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Law, or a related field

  • 2-4 years of experience in tax research, tax analysis, or a related role

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, local, and international tax laws and regulations

  • Experience with tax research software and tools (e.g., Thomson Reuters Checkpoint, Bloomberg Tax, CCH IntelliConnect)

  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and apply complex tax laws

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting research findings and recommendations

  • High attention to detail and accuracy in research and reporting

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple research projects concurrently

  • Professional certifications such as CPA, EA, or JD (preferred but not required)

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working in a law firm, public accounting firm, or tax consultancy

  • Familiarity with tax compliance processes and procedures

  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including tax planning, compliance, and legal departments
