Job Title: Seasonal Tax Preparer
Location: Boston; New Jersey; Houston
Department: Tax Preparation Services
Reports To: Tax Manager

Job Overview:
The Seasonal Tax Preparer is responsible for preparing and filing individual and small business tax returns during the busy tax season. This role involves gathering financial information, reviewing tax documents, and ensuring accurate and timely filing of returns in compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws. The ideal candidate will have experience in tax preparation and a strong understanding of tax regulations, along with excellent customer service skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals and small businesses during the tax season

  • Review client financial information, including income statements, expense reports, and deductions, to ensure accurate reporting

  • Interview clients to obtain additional information on taxable income, deductions, and allowances

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant tax regulations and deadlines

  • Utilize tax software to prepare and electronically file tax returns

  • Assist clients with tax-related questions, providing clear and accurate explanations of tax regulations

  • Stay updated on the latest changes in tax laws and regulations that may affect clients' returns

  • Collaborate with other tax professionals in the office to ensure efficient workflow and client satisfaction

  • Maintain client confidentiality and safeguard sensitive financial information

  • Provide exceptional customer service to clients, ensuring they have a positive experience during the tax preparation process

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred)

  • 1-2 years of experience in tax preparation (individual and small business tax experience preferred)

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations

  • Proficiency in tax preparation software (e.g., Intuit ProSeries, TurboTax, or similar)

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment during peak tax season

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with clients

  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Tax preparer certification (e.g., PTIN, EA) or willingness to obtain certification before tax season

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with tax deductions, credits, and various forms related to individual and small business tax filings

  • Bilingual abilities are a plus (Spanish, Mandarin, etc.)

Schedule:

  • Seasonal role (typically January through April), with potential for overtime during peak periods

  • Flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends during tax season
